Ooh, first post! I can't think of anything witty or erudite to impress you with, so random ramblings it is.

To be honest, this is probably not going to be very coherent anyway. It's half one in the morning and insomnia rules in the house of Dave. What better time to let things out and share with the world than when you're stoked on milky tea and can't string two words together without your grammar not being good.

I'm off work at the moment and I've been catching up with exciting things like reading, playing games and trying to chill (OK, I've been really lazy). Book-wise, I've finished Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, which was an excellent, intelligent, unpretentious novel, and I'm about half way through The Shot by Philip Kerr, which is a decidedly different take on the Kennedy assassination. I'd recommend them both highly.

I've been playing Ninja Gaiden on my Xbox far too much over the past few days. I have a great admiration for games that mix old school play with next generation aesthetics, and Ninja Gaiden strikes a near perfect balance. Just like so many old arcade games, it's "tough, but fair", which means you'll see the Game Over screen far more often than Generic Platformer #72. It looks peachy, too. But Tecmo Team Ninja peachy, which means that they've modeled each individual strand of fluff to perfection. I've put about 12 hours into it thus far, and I'm past Scary Skeletal Fly-ey Thing, which is a relief. It's a shame they don't name their bosses, because beating Giant Electrical Worm Beastie (times 2) doesn't sound as good as slaying Fnork'sna Ubervurm and his brother Gnut-Furble. Well, I was never any good at fantasy names, but you get the gist.

Unreal Tournament 2004 arrived on my doorstep today, too. Why aren't I playing that instead? Well, two reasons: one is that if I let anything distract me from Ninja Gaiden for one second, that game is going to 0wnz0r me; second, the thing takes 5 and a half GIGs (my emphasis) of disk space to install. Yes, I bought the DVD version and I won't have to swap between the 6 CDs as it parks its sizeable arse on my drive, but 5 and a half Gigs? Ay carumba. How much space do the savegames take up? Should I invest in a tape drive?

OK, I'd better leave it there. I need another cuppa and a read of something boring to send me to the land of nod. I hope I remember what account details I entered for next time. What did I call this thing anyway? Who are you? Where are my pills?
